There are three tips for you to maintain your toothbrush:
1. Deep-clean Your Toothbrush Once a Week.
Soak the head of toothbrush in a cup of antibacterial solution (e.g. alcohol-based mouthwash, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar for 10 minutes, then rinse it clean.
2. Keep Toothbrush Away from The Sink & Toilet!
To prevent spray of fecal matter when you flush, keep your toothbrush at least 2-3 feet from the toilet or use a ventilated cover for your toothbrush. Better yet, put your toothbrush in a toothbrush cover to avoid the bacteria in bathroom.
3. Replace Your Toothbrush Regularly!
After several months, bacteria build up and the bristles become frayed and damaged. So, remember to change your toothbrush every 3-4 months.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a manual toothbrush should be replaced every three to four months. If you use your brush for much longer than that, the bristles will start to become frayed and worn, and they won't be as effective at clearing away plaque.
